This week Chef Rob A wooed us with his garlic knowledge.
Not only is freezing leftover garlic a convenient way to store it for later use, it also has a number of other benefits.
Garlic can be expensive, especially if you're using it frequently. By freezing your leftover garlic, you can stretch your grocery budget further and get more value out of each bulb you buy.
Peeling & chopping garlic can be time-consuming, especially if you're using a lot of it. But, if you have frozen garlic on hand, you can easily grate it using a microplane grater. This will give you perfectly minced garlic in seconds, without the need to chop it by hand.
Garlic can lose its flavor over time, especially when stored in the fridge. By freezing it, you can preserve its taste & intensity, ensuring that your recipes will always have the right amount of flavor.
Freezing leftover garlic is incredibly simple. All you need to do is chop it up (either finely or coarsely), place it in an airtight container or plastic bag, & pop it in the freezer. When you're ready to use it, simply take out as much as you need and let it thaw before grating it with a microplane grater.
In addition to freezing leftover garlic, you can also freeze other herbs like parsley, cilantro, and basil to use later. Simply chop them up, place them in an ice cube tray, and cover with water or oil before freezing. This way, you'll always have a variety of herbs on hand for your cooking needs!
