How to Survive This Winter, the TSC Way — Tiny Spoon Chef

So, it’s February. Of course, there’s a whole lot of good happening - Valentine’s Day, Black History Month, Mardi Gras - but it’s also the part of winter in Boston where it just...stays winter. Forever. And, let’s be honest, that takes a huge toll on our physical and mental wellbeing. For those of us (quite literally) dreaming of hitting the beach, or even walking the dog in something that couldn’t be reasonably compared to a polar vortex, the good news is that there are plenty of ways to stave off the winter blues right now.

For your benefit - and ours, honestly - we put together some of our favorite tips for feeling more bright, energized, and in control of that magical time of year that is February and March in Boston.

1.Get invested in a new hobby.

Time flies when you’re occupied by something totally new and engaging. Why waste all the “learn something new” resolutions on January? This is the perfect time of year to dive into something exciting. Start a book club, begin a travel bucket list, get into coding, or finally learn how to make the perfect duck confit. (P.s. We do in-home cooking classes! Grab your friends and some mimosas for a laid-back afternoon - where you learn to perfect a dish like a professional chef. We don’t want to brag but...they’re very popular.)

2. Eat like it’s summer.

Eat brighter - not only is this great for if-you-close-your-eyes-it-could-be-summer moments, but more importantly, it’s a great way to boost your intake of bright, fresh produce. Research shows that fruit and veggie-heavy diets boost your mood, which is a welcome addition during the grayest months of the year. And, on a purely anecdotal level, have you ever tried crying while eating pineapple? Basically impossible.

3. Plant an herb garden!

We love an indoor herb garden, for obvious reasons - but did you know that indoor plants have a very real impact on your mood? They don’t just give the appearance of a more calm, relaxing space, they actually improve concentration and lower stress levels. And frankly, what’s better than mood-boosting decor that you can also eat? Basil, mint, chives, thyme are all great indoor growers. Tip: keep at eye-level around the house for maximum calm vibes (that’s a scientific directive).

4. Indulge - for a good reason.

You know how buying great new gym clothes gets you excited to work out? Same principle. Allowing yourself one little summer indulgence - new patio decor, a really nice swimsuit, a classic, high-end picnic hamper to bring your pre-packed TSC meals to the park - lets you get in that warm-weather headspace and makes it all feel a little closer. Everyone deserves a giant pool flamingo to look forward to.
